Oh, Hunger is an old friend of mine, we sit and we toe the breadline The sun doesn't brighten our days, we don't even feel the weekend One day a thought occurred to me - I'd have to leave the continent I asked my friend and he agreed; one day we'll go our separate ways Oh, what they'd have us believe Oh, what they'd have us FORGET you'd think I'm overqualified, didn't need a degree to do this Fast foods or nursing the elderly, that's not how I imagined England They despise the fact that I exist, I guess it stands to reason 'os I'm a reminder of history, I hurt their proud position Oh, what they'd have us believe oh, what they'd have us forget Rich Man asks Poor Man "When will you pay your debt?" Poor Man answers Rich Man "Forever, 'til my death" And it's not so differen now (Greed) Change? You said that you wanted to change? Nothing's changed Rich Man asks Poor Man "Why do you steal from me?" Poor Man answers Rich Man "How did you think I lived?" And it's not so differen now (Greed) Change? You said that you wanted to change? Nothing's changed And so I look in to your eyes And I see that I'm staring in to the eyes of death Oh my beautiful Africa

You speak your silence now You speak your silence but your silence is killing me You speak your silence now It's time to take another... snapshot Let's contradict our fate Listen out for the new philosophy 'Cos now they want to patent hate We'll watch a nation die of AIDs So let's get this culture straight Be aware of the will of our enemy Fight to set the record straight It's time to take another... another Snapshot. You speak your silence now I'm overcome but is it fear? Is it empathy? You're playing games with fate But I can't watch a nation die of AIDs This Ostrich Syndrome takes another and another Everyone looks the same through the blind eyes of history You wear indifference like a badge of honour It's time to take another... another Snapshot. Do you think I'd be better off in the ground? I'd make a martyr in the ground You love the anguish, you love the abuse You love it It's time to take another... Snapshot Let's get this picture straight And this is the soundtrack - it's just one way to Try get the picture straight The revolution is in your head

Forget about... like it's some other country - forget about it Forget about... move out from the city - forget about it Forget about your militant poetry - forget about it Forget about... the way it will always be - forget about it 'Cos it's too late too late too late Sit back, sit back, sit back And watch them die On Prime Time TV Don't you look at me With cold hands And cold eyes Forget about... just erase your short memory - forget about it Forget about... don't let it trouble you - forget about it Forget about... Figures and numbers and - forget about it Forget about... They're not in your family - forget about it 'Cos it's too late too late too late Sit back, sit back, sit back And watch them On Prime Time TV Don't look at me With cold hands And cold eyes

Well, here's coming at ya with the economic structural adjustment program Fresh in from the North, special delivery, but don't you ever get caught tryin' ta hijack tha ticket From the day you were born you been ever in debt to me for the sins of my ancestors You got to throw your books just to make ends meet? I know ... but I forget sometimes Gather round, round the table; time to spice it up, to dice it, to slice it So if the shoe fits let them wear it, let them wear it out - Let them walk barefoot! I hear this voice that speaks inside of me, All that remains of the original cause But I've learned to ignore 'cos the wealth I adore would be the first, the first to go if I... listen up Take a time out Change the sound We're gonna make the people Jump. I'm Speaking of war now! Well I hear what you say, big brother, brother ... So wise on the moves when you state your play 'Cos you're a winner - and man we all love a winner, With the "who goes there?", swap one rule for the other So break it down for me one more time; how do I suck you off? D'ya want it fast or slow? 'Cos I'm a whore, but you already raped me... (OK, now bring in the bass line) Yo, we got it all set up 'cos now they hungry But our belly full 'Cos, ugh, you and me got it all worked out My people work for free while they bury their fathers Whaddya mean ya don't remember me? I'm the country you drew Before you withdrew And now you can make a deposit to the New Bank of Switzerland 'Cos I refuse to chorus What more do you need? What more do you want from me? Let's make the people jump. I'm speaking of war now! Meanwhile, south of the border... Where you never look

You march but you're fake You speak to me nothing but hate You've no idea what's at stake Don't want to participate You lust without thought And swallow everything they taught You're scared of feeling pain And you're scared of getting caught Sometimes I think that I've lost my touch, when I'm on my own and I've had enough The glass has fallen - it's empty ; this time spent scratching my head The snake that's coiled has strangled me, (and) now the venom's kicking in That's how the virus breeds again, 'Cos I need another to take her turn Here we go again (You're driving me insane) You drive me round the bend (You're driving me insane) Here we go again (You're driving me insane) The madness never ends (You're driving me insane) Shut your mouth Close your eyes Can you taste my acid tongue That feeds on your lies? (c) What the hell do you expect me to say When you continue to test me? This headache ain't going away Light the fire and try to impress me Always making the same mistakes Not for the first time this century Tie a rope or keep me in chains I'm dreaming of ending the misery (c) Now I know why... I need calm Before you take away…

Shut up; now answer me Is there a reason you stayed? Where you praying for rain? Praying for rain... Fed them with fury Watched them bloating with rage You made a mistake, you made a mistake again I want to hear you scream out loud I am… I am… I am… I am… I want to hear the children sing I am… I am… I am… I am… Let's paint this picture black Erasing the fade Removing the blame, displacing the blame The war you thought you finished started again To our ancestors shame, we find ourselves shamed again I want to hear you scream out loud I am… I am… I am… I am… I want to hear the children sing I am… I am… I am… I am… Come on, Mutha Fucker Call a spade a spade

about

*** SOLD OUT : PHYSICAL COPIES OF THIS ALBUM ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE! ***

Djevara's DIY debut was a ferocious UK alt-rock / punk-metal hybrid of passionate, energetic and visceral music - at times like a more hardcore, grungier Rage Against The Machine in a fistfight with Sepultura and Skunk Anansie. Critically acclaimed when released, this was the work of a band naive enough to follow their muses and bathe enthusiastically in their influences. This record is far straighter and to-the-jugular hook-laden riff rock than the more progressive sound the band would later develop, an angry musical pill of politically charged alternative rock for the jilted generation. (And yes, the title is ironic)

Reviews:
"A truly tumultuous debut offering, that recalls the vital energy of Rage Against The Machine and Jane’s Addiction’s thrillingly abrasive introductions to the world. Inspiring." -
KKKK - Kerrang!

"the sheer melodic density of Djevara's sound makes everthing feel as simultaneously epic and intimate as prime Fugazi... an awesome debut"
8/10 - BANG Magazine

"Fiercesomely powerful metal, with a rhino stomping groove that is equally uncompromising in its punk pedigree... this is an excellent album."
8/10 - Metal Hammer
