about

"Djevarian" is an album by Djevara's Anté Bassey (aka The Anté Dote). The album started life as the roots for the next chapter in the Djevara story, album 4, picking up from where "Hear No Evil" ended. However it soon took on a life of its own and it became apparent that it would make more sense to produce this as an off-shoot work, while using the opportunity to invite musical guests drawn largely from among those Djevara consider their extended family from the DIY/underground scene and beyond. The result will (hopefully!) be an exciting spin on the Djevara world.

The record also harks back to Djevara's early campaigning origins; all funds raised from sales of this record will go towards projects which aim to help the most vulnerable victims of war and poverty in the developing world, with the emphasis on women and children who tend to suffer disproportionately; the former from violence, rape and systematic lack of representation and justice, the latter from having their childhoods stolen or being brutalized into becoming child soldiers. These are issues I feel very strongly about and I very much hope that apart from raising some money to help the victims, with this record and associated works I'll also be able to do my bit to bring about a bit more appreciation about the role our relentless consumerism in The West plays in fueling the conflicts which exacerbate these perennial problems eg the conflicts over the minerals in the Congo which are essential for our ever-expanding digital and mobile technologies.

Examples of organizations doing or highlighting the kind of work which this project shall support (though not necessarily the specifics ones funds will go to) include :
V-DAY www.vday.org (see www.vday.org/contents/drcongo)
WAR CHILD www.warchild.org

If you have suggestions as about projects that these funds could support, feel free to get in touch.
